Craftsman Don Pickett, from his shop in his home, creates one-of-a-kind pieces of beauty from a variety of native New Brunswick woods. Don uses no stains or varnishes. He attempts to enhance the simple elegance of each piece by sanding to a silken finish and rubbing with natural tung oil. Don's propensity for creating the unique is the only "common" thing about his work. Generally no two items are alike, and it is this diversity that makes his work so attractive. Among his works are candle holders in a stunning array of designs and sizes. Don has a particular love for working with "burls" or knots. From them he turns decorative bowls, each one outstandingly impressive. Also from the burls he turns one-of-a-kind coffee tables. These coffee tables and dining tables sit on wrought iron bases and are topped with glass through which one can admire the naturally beautiful wood grains. Don creates striking, functional bowls in a number of shapes and sizes that will grace any table. He uses many types of wood, thus adding different coloring and textures to his creations. Decorative lamps are other items that are sure to catch the eye. These lamps are all CSA certified. Sue, Don's wife, adds the crowning touches to these pieces with her handmade shades in fabric or beautiful cut and pierce designs. Pieces of Don's work can be found all over North America, in Europe, and as far as Hawaii and Australia. A juried member of the New Brunswick Craft Council, Don Pickett is making is mark.
